The Don Gill Project

Don Gill lives between Burkeville and Jasper off of route 63 in Newton County. His roof was destroyed by Rita. The roof replacement project was managed by Self Help Housing (Second Hope Homes) of East Texas (SHHET). The project was managed by Mr. Ralph Rosedale, founder of SHHET and member of the Board of Directors. A local contractor, Mr. Prentiss Brooks and his team, are doing the actual work. The work required removing of the damaged metal roof and the underlying layer of asphalt shingles. Due to significant water damage, most of the wood had to be replace as well.

The funding for this entire project comes from several sources: Rita Recovery, an agency of The United Methodist Church; and Church World Service; and several other grants.

In Short, this project was made possible by a group of faith based and non-profit organizations and a local businessman, Prentiss Brooks.

The back side of the house had not been repaired at this point. Notice the blue tarp and damaged metal roof.
