Christmas should be a season of joy and giving, but some families do not have the resources to give or have much joy. Many organizations in Newton County banded together to assist those residents who may have had limited resources for the Christmas Season. The partnership helped provide toys for young children and personal hygiene products for older youth. For the families involved, fixings for a Christmas dinner were provided through the Newton Food Share. Each family was provided a turkey or a ham plus other groceries.

Those involved organizations involved were Dover’s Exxon, the Newton VFD, Texas AgriLife Extension, Newton Aid, Brookshire’s, the Burkeville VFD, the Deweyville VFD, the Trout Creek VFD, the Newton City Police Department, the Newton County Sheriff’s Department, Shady Acres Nursing Home, the Newton Girl Scout Troop 6008, The Newton Cub Scout Pack 36, the Newton Boy Scout Troop 63, The Newton High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes, The Newton High School National Honor Society, and Burkeville ISD.

Christmas toys and other gift items were collected in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, and they were distributed to Bon Weir, Bleakwood, Trout Creek and Deweyville on December 17-18. People who live in the Newton Community picked up their gifts on Monday, December 21st at the church and their food at the Newton Food Share center in the Old Hospital on Main Street.

Of course, we cannot show any pictures of those families who were assisted. The first set of pictures below show the preparation activities in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church. These volunteers are preparing packages of gifts for the various families who were assisted.
