Planting Flowers for Mother's Day at Newton Elementary School (page 2)

On Friday, May 9, 2008, first graders at Newton Elementary School planted marigolds to take home for Mothers' Day on Sunday. This project was conceived, funded, and coordinated by the Newton Garden Club. There were several steps depicted by the following action shots of the project. The kids were given a pot and fitted with a custom apron by the Garden Club. They were directed in the following steps:

• Decorating 

• Personalizing with name

• Planting marigold

• Fill with potting soil

• Packing in plastic bag

The kids took the aprons and the potted plants back to their classes to take home at the end of the day. You will notice lots of help being given by the Garden Club members. Be sure to notice how well behaved the children were and the fun they had. Some were entertaining themselves while waiting their turns.
