Newton Homecoming in 2006 also brought the 50th Anniversary of the building that First United Methodist Church worships in. Along with the usual festivities associated with homecoming, we also celebrated the reconsecration of our worship center. Along with the reconsecration we also participated in a confirmation covenant ritual for our two confirmands, Brittny Bacon and Haley Shaver.

With prayerful dedication, twenty members of the 1955 congregation of First United Methodist Church agreed to sign a note at the First National Bank of Newton for $3,000 each to secure a loan for $60,000 to build a new facility. This new facility would be at the same location as the facility that was built in 1907 at the corner of High and East Streets. The twenty members were:

Only two of the original twenty who signed the note are still with us today; David Rydman and Drannon Smith.
