Samantha Patterson graduates from Newton High School in 2009, and she will be going to Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. Lon Morris allows each UMC pastor to recommend a graduating senior for a $2,500 scholarship. Joe recommended Samantha. The scholarship was presented to her on January 18, 2009, during the worship service. Rev. Rhett Ansely, Chaplain and Lon Morris, came to bring greetings on behalf of Lon Morris and congratulate Samantha. The NHS counselors, Sherry Tracy and Debbie Johnston, were in attendance.
