UM ARMY 2005

UM ARMY 2006

The UMARMY is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is headquartered in Houston. Each summer hundreds of youth and adult mentors go on working mission trips throughout Texas. Recently, the organization is spreading to other states. These mission trips accomplish various tasks to help clients such as building wheel chair ramps, making minor repairs, cleaning up yards and cutting grass, painting, and the like. While these activities are of benefit to clients and communities, the primary goal is the spiritual formation of the youth. The youth work hard for their clients, and the daily worship and prayer is focused on relating their work experiences to their spiritual lives. That is to say, they work as part of the body of Christ in his world and for God's children. In it is an extraordinary organization: Making disciples for Christ for the transformation of the world. 

In Newton, Texas, the following summarizes the work accomplished:

4000 hours of labor worth well over $75,000

32 different work sites completed including the following specific projects:

8 Wheelchair Ramps
At least 5 porches repaired or replaced
At least 7 sets of steps
At least 3 handrail replacements
At least 2 window replacements
At least 5 door replacements
At least 4 sites had interior painting
At least 19 sites had exterior painting
At least 4 sites with siding repair
At least 7 roof repairs
At least 1 floor repair
At least 17 sites had screen repair
At least 11 sites with mowing and yard work
At least 5 jobs cleaning
At least 2 jobs hauling trash
At least 20 other various Jobs
