Angel Tree 2007 Each Christmas the church collects the information on children who might not receive anything for Christmas. These data are obtained from a variety of sources and filtered through Charlet Meyer at the County Extension Office to ensure an even distribution of gifts to children for Christmas. Each child/parent furnishes sizes, needs, and desires, and we try to purchase what is requested. This year the Extension office distributed the gifts at Grace Bible Church. The church also distributed Christmas poinsettias to members in nursing homes. Each Easter we distribute Easter baskets and Easter Lilies to shut-ins. |

This is an example of one of the angels. 20 of these were posted on the green angel tree. The person who takes the angel purchases the gift based upon the requests and tapes the angel to the package so Charlet will know which child gets this gift. |

The next step in the process was to put the presents in the hands of the recipients. This year the process was a bit different and highly organized. Grace Bible Church was the staging area for the collection of gifts received from various organizations: The East Texas Chopper Guys, Sawmill Town, The Marine Corps' Toys for Tots, as well as our church. We packaged our presents in white plastic bags and labeled each with the real name of the child receiving the gift. Volunteers from Grace, First Baptist, Burkeville United Methodist, Community Church, and others, packaged the gifts and food in a manner similar to ours. I was astonished at the vast amount of goods collected and donated. Charlet Meyer of the County Extension Office organized the total event. |
