The Methodist Men of
First United Methodist Church of Newton sponsor non-denominational breakfast
gatherings for all people in the Newton area. These fellowship gatherings are held
on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 AM. It
is believed that these fellowship breakfasts can bring all area Christians together in a new way and can have a profound effect throughout our area. A
variety of speakers will be invited to address these gatherings. |

On Wednesday, September 29, 2006, one of our young coaches and teachers from Newton High School gave an inspiring talk illustrating how important our youth are and the care they receive from the coaching staff. Clayton Halbrook has answered a calling to help mature the young people that he teaches, mentors, and coaches. The youth of Newton are in good hands! Some beautiful contemporary praise music was provided by David Hines, who is the owner and operator of Shady Acres. David is a community leader in Newton. |

On Wednesday, August 23, 2006, our own Legendary Newton High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Director, Curtis Barbay, was our guest speaker. Coach Barbay is well known as a winning coach who has created a football dynasty in Newton. What we learned to appreciate is how much he cares for the youth of Newton and to understand how he has been instrumental in taking young, immature kids and turning them into mature young men. The vocalist was Christye Shaw who works at the Orange Savings Bank. She has utilized her operatic voice to grace many people with her own version of Southern Gospel. We were truly blessed by both Coach Barbay and Christye Shaw. We were graced with some special visitors at this particular breakfast. |

| On Wednesday, July 19, 2006, our own County Judge, the Honorable Truman Dougharty, was our guest speaker. We were blessed to hear a stirring and heart felt witness to his life as a Christian. Our own Mayor Rachel Martin was the guest vocalist. She sang two songs that she wrote herself. The second was a very moving song entitled: Even Cowboys Love Jesus, which should remind us that we cannot judge someone by how they look or what they do for a living. We had a strong attendance, and Ennis Washburn fixed his nationally acclaimed blueberry pancakes. What a great day! | ||

On Saturday April 9, 2006 we were profoundly blessed by a service of prayer, word, and song. Deacon Ronald Graham and Vera Lacy shared the gift of worshipful song with us. Rev. LD Matthews stirred our hearts and souls with the Word of God. He called upon all of us, regardless of denomination, color, or ethnicity to get to truly know each other. By knowing each other we can learn to serve and love each other.
