The Mennonite Disaster Service
A very interesting home is the Jean Welty House that is built up on pilings because it is near the Sabine River, which floods occasionally. This house was done in stages. The Mennonites started the project, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church from Lincoln, Nebraska completed it.

The first set of pictures and text are from January 16, 2006: The Jean Welty home had significant roof damage and some serious mold problems. However, prior to those tasks, a rainy day provided a good opportunity to replace some damaged structural members supporting the house. Here, a crew of Mennonites work cutting new timbers and posts, and replacing and strengthening the structure. |
