Rita Restoration

One of the most extensive projects that the Mennonite Disaster Service completed was the Verna Brooks Home.

This home construction went on for several weeks because it was rebuilt inside and outside

Written on January 18, 2006: Verna Brooks’ home had substantial damage. The Mennonite Disaster Service is shown shortly after rebuilding the roofing structure. Here they are putting the roofing on the house. As you can see for comparison, the left front is being finished with new metal roofing, the right front has yet to be stripped, and the back side has been stripped and rebuilt but not roofed as yet. This home is located about 2 miles west of Burkeville on Route 63.

Notice the extensive damage to the roof and back of the house.

The Following was written and pictures were taken on February 1, 2006: The earlier pictures taken in January show the roofing work on the Verna Brooks home. Well those remarkable Mennonites are in the process of rehabilitating the house inside and out, It already is beginning to look like a new home. The picture of the woman standing on the porch is Linda Brooks the daughter of Verna Brooks, owner of the home. Notice the inside that is now ready for new refurbishing. I cannot wait until this one is done to see how it looks. It will look like a new home

The following text and pictures originated on February 9, 2006: The Mennonite Disaster Service continues to rehabilitate the Verna Brooks' home. The roof was completely rebuilt and replaced a few weeks ago. Then it was completely resided and painted, and new windows were installed. The work has begun on the inside. All new studs were put in place, and sheetrock installed. The current work crew is shown in front of the porch. A few pictures of the outside and inside are shown. This will be like a new house when completed.

The following text and pictures date from February 16, 2006, my last visit to the Brooks home: You may recall the new roof, exterior siding, and exterior painting at the Brooks' house done by the Mennonite Disaster Service. The interior has all new wood work and sheetrock. Here Mennonites are doing the finish work on the sheetrock. The next step is painting.
