On Sunday, July 23, 2006, First United Methodist Church hosted our brothers and sisters from St. Paul's Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME) in Liberty Community. Their pastor, Rev. Jules Williams, and his wife and three children attended with their congregation. The CME separated from the Methodist Episcopal Church-- South, in 1870, creating a division among Methodists based totally on race. Yet, we come from the very same Wesleyan tradition, share very similar structure, doctrine, and worship liturgy. We are both hopeful that we can continue to share in worship, mission, and fellowship in new and exciting ways in the future. The two churches are only about 7 miles apart, and we can do great things together. |
